This converter allows to transform measured lengths on maps and scaled drawings to lengths in reality. Conversions vice versa are also possible.

Usage:
When the scale of your map or drawing is known, just enter it into the darker field on top.
For example type "50000" into the field for a scale of 1:50000.
Afterwards you may type lengths on the map or in reality in different units
into the corresponding lighter field. Click on any empty space of the window or
on the "calculate" button, and the other values will be calculated.
When you do not know the scale, at first activate the checkbox "calibration".
Next type a length on the map in centimeter or in inch into the suitable field and, finally,
type the corresponding length in reality into the field with the correct unit.
After a click on any empty space of the window or on the "calculate" button
the scale is calculated and you may start to convert distances.
Use the "delete" button to delete entries and the "reset" button to reset.
Move the mouse over a unit or click on it to read its full name.
Examples: By which length a distance of 23 km is displayed on a map with a scale of 1:50000 ? At first, type "50000" into the darker field on top and, afterwards, type "23" into the km-field for reality. After a click on any empty space of the window or on the "calculate" button, you may read the results for the map (46 cm or 18.11 in).
On a scaled drawing of an appartment 10 cm correspond to 4 m in reality. How are 1.2 m displayed on this map ? At first activate the checkbox "calibration". Next type "10" into the cm-field for the map and afterwards "4" into the m-field for reality. After a click on any empty space of the window or on the "calculate" button the scale is calculated (1:40) and you may start conversions. Type "1.2" into the m-field for reality and read the result in the fields for the map after another mouseclick on any empty space of the window or on the "calculate" button (3 cm).
The calibration may also be used to enter older scales like 1 inch : 1 mile (1:63360).
